Sacraments
Infant Baptism
First-time parents take part in Baptism preparation, which includes an interview and a 90-minute education session. Baptisms are celebrated during a weekend Mass or after 10:15 Mass on Sundays, approximately every five to six weeks. Announcement of upcoming preparation sessions and baptisms appear in the weekly bulletin and a complete schedule is available from the parish office. Parents are encouraged to schedule the interview and attend the preparation before the baby is born. Begin the process by calling the parish office, 221-1521.
First Eucharist (Communion)
For children in grade two or older enrolled in the parish school or religious education program. Preparation begins in January of grade two. Parents take part in an adult enrichment session and receive a workbook to complete with their child at home. The children celebrate a Rite of Enrollment at a Sunday liturgy, complete their work at home in addition to their regular religion classes, and participate in an evening retreat with their parents. The sacrament is celebrated in the spring after Easter at a choice of two weekend Masses: 5:00 Saturday one week, and 10:15 Sunday the next. Contact LaVonne Bayer, 221-1001 or lbayer@ihm-school.org for more information.
First Reconciliation (Confession)
For children enrolled in the parish school or religious education program, preparation for First Reconciliation begins in grade two and is completed in grade four. In grade two, the children learn about the sacrament through their religion curriculum and opportunities for private confession are offered early in Lent. After celebrating the sacrament for awhile and maturing in age, a more intense preparation is offered in the fall of grade four. Parents take part in an adult enrichment session and receive a workbook to complete with their child at home. The children participate in an evening retreat with their parents and a communal celebration of the sacrament takes place late in January. Contact LaVonne Bayer at 221-1001 or lbayer@ihm-school.org for more information.
Confirmation
Preparation for Confirmation is offered for students in their junior year of high school or older, as well as for adults who have not been confirmed. Sessions are held on Sunday evenings in the Church Meeting Room, beginning in the early fall. Contact Eileen Hribar, 221-1777 or ehribar@ihm-school.org for more information.
Sacraments for older students
If an older student missed a sacrament because of any circumstance, such as moving, divorce, illness, etc., arrangements can be made to help the family prepare for First Eucharist, First Reconciliation, or Baptism. Contact LaVonne Bayer at 221-1001 or lbayer@ihm-school.org
Marriage
Getting married in the Catholic Church involves several steps, making it necessary that you begin the process at least four months before the wedding date. Please contact Fr. John Meinholz at 221-1521 to learn more about the preparation process and what the requirements are for marriage in the Catholic Church.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
This is the process by which adults who are not Catholic, or who have never been baptized into any faith, or who were baptized but received no further instruction for sacraments, can investigate the Catholic Church and come to discover if they do indeed wish to be baptized and/or complete their initiation through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. The process involves learning, prayer, and time to answer questions that participants may have. RCIA sessions take place on Tuesday evenings during the school year. Contact either Fr. John Meinholz at 221-1521, or LaVonne Bayer at 221-1001, email: lbayer@ihm-school.org
Reconciliation (Confession)
Individual confessions are on Saturdays from 4:00-4:30 pm in the church Reconciliation Room. Communal celebrations take place seasonally. The sacrament can be requested by calling Fr. John Meinholz at 221-1521.
Anointing of the Sick
A communal celebration of Anointing of the Sick takes place each fall at weekend masses. Families or friends are asked to contact the parish office to request a private celebration of this sacrament. Call 221-1521.
